Letter From Chas, 2-27-08

From the chilly 15 degree weather with 6 inches on snow on the ground town of st. marys.
I love it here, people are either friendly or they just slam the door. I’ve learned that 9 out of 10 people here are either catholic or nazerine. They don’t want to change, but hey, plant a seed right.

Our area covers St Marys, and about 15 other small towns. I guess we might get to goto 5 of the other towns while im here. Members drive close to 25 miles to goto church on sunday. We have about 50 people in our branch, but they are some of the nicest people we’ve met. We meet in a newish (built 1 or 2 years ago) church building in town. Picture our home building, cut into a third.  Theres roughly 6 classrooms, 2 offices and a chapel/cultural hall. Its kind of funny looking, i’ll be sure to send pictures. No pews, just padded seats. It’s comfy for sure.

People around here are interesting. They love to talk. We tracted into a guy who talked to us about race horses for 30 minutes the other night. These types are very hard to keep on task, but we accept it. We have an investigator named Kerry (a guy) whos the retired police chief here. Hes an obese man, with the most random information in his head. He’s our best investigator though.  in last nights lesson we hit on the revolutionary war, bigfoot, guns, jones soda, the book of jacob and a bit about answering prayers. It’s sad when you have to knock out 2 hours of your night, but i find him very entertaining. Other subjects in the past include cheese, civil war, townships (meaningless if you ask me) braunschweiger and people around town.  He’s an interesting fellow, he’s already had rougly 10 out of the 4 lessions we teach, he just wants his wife to learn too.

The weather is supposed to be better soon. We have a phone number we call (tell me is the name) and it gives us a weather forecast for the area.

Mom, can you move some money from my debit savings to my checking. Also, i may have to use a little of the credit money, because im out of mission monthly money (they gave us a whole 40 dollars) and im going to starve if i dont.

Tim: i heard about you getting canned, that really sucks. I’ve been praying for you quite a bit.  Put this on the website if you can, and send me my card back!

Joe: Any luck with the taxes? any idea how much im getting?

We get a car in this area, mainly for the huge area we “cover”. We get the most allowed miles in the mission. 1800 a month.  That way we can get around in our 05 Corolla with over 50k miles. Word is that we may get a new malibu or a mazda 3 sometime this year.

I’ll send some pics home sometime soon.  Mom, can you send another patriarchal blessing. I have no idea what happened to my last one, and its really bugging me.

Can you send me a family picture sometime mom?

Alright, its time to goto the Krog (kroger) to get some shopping done.
Mom, im glad you splurged for the ecco shoes, they are the best shoes ever. They stay dry, and they are grippy.  The rockports have no grip and they get soaked, but they are more comfy. I still switch off though.

Anything new at home?
I’ll send my current address again.

Last thing, i heard Bill Clinton was in Lima, Ohio. We all wondered why the heck he’d come down here. Lima is the town our district is in. Probably 30,000 people. I guess he wants to get out to the factory workers, since thats the only place these people work out here.

Alright, im out till next week. Remember that im on Eastern time, so if you want to get on and talk, check for my emails around 7:30-8:30ish your time on wednesday mornings.

Talk to you soon
